What Men Overlook in Their Skincare Routine

A lot of my experience with men’s skincare started really naturally. My boyfriend Esteban, my stepdad, and a few family friends were the first ones I practiced on. Nothing formal, just noticing skin concerns and helping where I could. And over time, I started to see a pattern.
Men’s skin isn’t “bad” or “hard to work with.” It’s just usually unaddressed.
Florida Lifestyle + Skin Build-Up
Especially in Florida, where the heat, humidity, sweating, gym routines, and outdoor lifestyle are constant, skin builds up fast.
Add in the fact that most men stick to a basic “soap and water” routine, and you start to see the same common issues show up over and over:
Blackheads and congestion around the nose and beard area
Build-up from sweat and sunscreen
Rough or uneven texture
Ingrown hairs from shaving or trimming
Irritation that just gets ignored until it’s noticeable
With Esteban, I saw this a lot during long studio nights and travel days. Between golfing, constant sweating, stage lights, and late hours, his skin was just doing its best to keep up. Over time, oil, sweat, and buildup accumulated, leading to enlarged pores and blackheads as debris became trapped in the skin.
Same with my stepdad and family friends who are always active, outside, swimming, or golfing.

What Most Men Don’t Realize About Their Skin
What I’ve noticed is that most men don’t really realize how much buildup is happening until it’s already pretty visible. It’s not from “not caring,” it’s just not something that’s ever been made part of their routine.
So when we actually take time to address it, it’s usually pretty simple: deep cleansing, clearing congestion, improving texture, and helping the skin reset without overcomplicating anything.
And the reaction is almost always the same: at first it’s “I don’t really need this,” and halfway through it turns into “Wow, I should’ve done this sooner. When can I book my next appointment?”
Other Common Men’s Concerns Beyond Skincare
Outside of skin cleansing and maintenance, there are a few other things men deal with that don’t always get talked about in aesthetics but come up more than people think:
Waxing or laser hair removal for areas they’re tired of dealing with (back, neck, shoulders)
Laser hair removal for long-term reduction so they’re not constantly shaving or dealing with irritation
Tattoo removal sessions for pieces that no longer fit their life or style
Mental Health relaxation to aid in decompressing after long days and built-up tension & stress
And even general skin concerns like rough texture, buildup, wrinkles, dehydration, and dark circles
None of this is about changing how someone looks. It’s more about removing everyday discomforts that people just learn to live with.
Simple, Consistent Care Works Best
What I’ve learned is that men usually don’t need a complicated skincare routine; they just need consistency and solutions that actually match their lifestyle. Nothing extra. Nothing overwhelming. Just practical care that makes their skin feel better to live in.
And honestly, that’s what makes this work so meaningful to me.
It’s about helping someone feel more comfortable in their skin without making it a whole “thing.”

I can see how an active lifestyle creates a build up on the skin. I admit when I look at skincare products I’m in the demographic of men that says “ I don’t need this”. But this blog posts hit points where I feel I should book a facial soon.
P.s. The mental health inclusion was encouraging
